When it comes to sport utility vehicles (SUVs), the Tata Nexon is clearly leading the race. It is time and again taking the numero uno position on the monthly SUV sales chart. It was the best-selling SUV in India in October as well, moving ahead of the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Kia Seltos and Mahindra Scorpio.
The SUV segment has witnessed steady growth in recent years in India. Its share in the overall passenger vehicle (PV) market was 26% in FY20. It improved to 32% in FY21 and 40% in FY23.
In October, Tata Motors had two SUVs, Nexon and Punch, among the 10 best-selling SUVs in India, while Hyundai Motor India (Creta and Venue), Maruti Suzuki India (Brezza and Grand Vitara), Kia India (Seltos and Sonet) and Mahindra & Mahindra (Bolero and Scorpio) had two each.
Standing at the top of the SUV mountain, the Tata Nexon garnered sales of 13,767 units in October. It was followed by the Hyundai Creta at 11,880 units. Then came the Tata Punch at 10,982 units. The Maruti Suzuki Brezza registered sales of 9,941 units.
The Kia Seltos recorded sales of 9,777 units during the month. The Hyundai Venue was slightly behind at 9,585 units. The Mahindra Bolero, including the Bolero Neo, clocked sales of 8,772 units.
The recently-launched Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara posted sales of 8,052 units. The Kia Sonet did decent business at 7,614 units. The sales of the Mahindra Scorpio, including both N and Classic models, stood at 7,438 units.
