The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) will be hosting the Pradhan Mantri National Apprenticeship Mela (PMNAM) as part of the government’s Skill India Mission at 199 locations across 25 states and union territories in the country.
The government has invited local businesses to be part of the mela and provide the local youth with apprenticeship opportunities. The companies will meet the potential candidates at the event and select them at the event itself, allowing the youth to find training opportunities and join an organization.
“The major purpose of this programme is to encourage companies to hire more apprentices, while also assisting employers in discovering and developing the potential they have via training and practical skill sets. It is also critical to embed apprenticeship in the educational ecosystem besides building credible pathways from apprenticeship to higher education,” said Atul Kumar Tiwari, secretary, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.
The mela is held each month and individuals hired receive a monthly stipend according to the criteria prescribed by the government. The government reportedly wants to train 1 million individuals each year.
