Under the Delhi government’s free electricity scheme, people were getting a 100 percent subsidy for consuming less than 200 units and a 50 percent subsidy of up to Rs 800 for using up to 400 units in a month.
Now, the state government has come up with a new voluntary subsidy scheme (VSS). It is now mandatory for people to opt in for the subsidy to continue getting electricity at subsidised rates. It means that subsidy on electricity will not be available by default, consumers will have to apply for it.
How to apply/ask for the subsidy?
To apply for the subsidy, you have to apply before the last day of the preceding month. For example, if you want the subsidy to be given starting October 1, you will have to apply by September 30.
1.Give a missed call on 7011311111.
2. Link to opt for a subsidy will be sent to you via SMS.
3. Click on the link and it will open a page on your WhatsApp. You have to select the language — Hindi or English — to proceed.
4. Enter your 11-digit CA No (FULL FORM). You can find this in your electricity bill.
5. Pre-filled subsidy application forms will be displayed.
6. Confirm the details by selecting the ‘YES’ option to opt for the electricity subsidy
7. Acknowledgement will be sent to your number through WhatsApp.
Do note that the form can be submitted only through one mobile number.
To apply for an electricity subsidy via WhatsApp
a) Type ‘Hi’ and send to WhatsApp number 7011311111.
b) Select the language in the next step.
c) Enter your 11-digit CA No.
d) Pre-filled subsidy application forms will be displayed.
e) Confirm the details by selecting the ‘YES’ option to opt for an electricity subsidy.
Scan QR code on your electricity bill
You can also scan the QR code provided with your pre-filled subsidy application form with your electricity bill. You will be redirected to your WhatsApp. Then the pre-filled subsidy application form will be displayed on your screen. You have to confirm the details by selecting YES to opt for the power subsidy. You will receive an acknowledgment through WhatsApp.
How to apply for power subsidy offline
The consumer can fill up a consent form attached with their power bill and submit it at the nearest billing center or customer care center of the electricity board to avail the free subsidy. You can find the consent form with the electricity bill for October.
