Aadhaar is the most important identification document for Indians. It is a universal number that helps agencies and services to authenticate a beneficiary’s identity by availing authentication services. While all the data on the Aadhaar card should be correct, sometimes, change in your permanent address, spelling errors in the address or if a child attains 15 years of age, then an update in Aadhaar is required.
So, if you want to change any details in the address mentioned on your Aadhaar card then you can do it conveniently by visiting the official website of UIDAI. To change or update the address in your Aadhaar you just have to login into the official website of UIDAI uidai.gov.in and click on ‘Update your Aadhaar’ under the ‘My Aadhaar’ menu.

Let’s take a detailed look at the step-by-step of changing or updating your address details on the Aadhaar card.
How to change or update address on Aadhaar card
- Open the official website of the UIDAI- https://uidai.gov.in/.
- Click on the ‘My Aadhaar’ option shown on the homepage of the website.
- Now, under the ‘Update Your Aadhaar’ section, click on the ‘Update Address in Your Aadhaar’.
- You will be redirected to a Login page. Enter your Aadhaar card number, and verify it by entering the Captcha.
- An OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number. Enter the OTP to login into the UIDAI system
- After the Login process, you will see the UIDAI website Aadhaar Card Address Change Dashboard. Click on the ‘Update Aadhaar Online’ option.
- Now select ‘Address’ from the option shown under ‘Aadhaar data filed(s) to update’.
- Click on Proceed to Update Aadhaar.
Note: You will be required to upload proof of a new address which you need to update in your Aadhaar Click on ‘Proceed to update Aadhaar’.
- You can also preview your changes. Ensure that all the details you are entering are correct in English as well as in your local language. After checking Submit the request.
- After submitting the request you will be redirected to the payment portal. Pay Rs 50 fee for updating of address. You can pay by UPI, net banking, or the available payment methods.
- Once the payment is successful, you will get an updated request number (URN).
- You can use the URN number to track the status of the online address update. Also, download/print the acknowledgment copy of your payment.
You will receive the updated Aadhaar card at the new address within 90 days.
Notably, you can update your Address online in the Self-Service Update Portal (SSUP). For other details updates on the Aadhaar card such as Demographic details (Name, Address, DoB, Gender, Mobile Number, Email) as well as Biometrics (Finger Prints, Iris & Photograph) you will have to visit Permanent Enrolment Center for biometric verification.
