Action initiated against officials responsible for construction of Noida twin towers but none in jail

In August last year, the Supreme Court came down heavily on the realty firm, which allegedly colluded with Noida authority officials and constructed the twin towers in violation of the building norms.

The demolition of the Supertech group’s twin towers in Noida’s Sector 93-A has brought up the question as to how the structures came into being in the first place. In August last year, the Supreme Court came down heavily on the realty firm, which allegedly colluded with Noida authority officials and constructed the twin towers in violation of the building norms.

Although different agencies have initiated action against the officials, none—either from Supertech, Noida authority or the fire department—are in jail.

Here’s a look at the officials, whose names have cropped up so far.

Currently, 11 officers of the Noida authority are under the radar. Among them, some of the prominent officers, who have been suspended are

Planning manager : Mukesh Goel

Planning assistant : Vimala Singh

Planning assistant in Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Corporation : Anita

General manager planning in Yamuna Authority : Rituraj

Apart from them, action has also been taken seven other officials

CPA in Planning dept : Trivhuvan Singh and VA Devpuraji

Senior town planner : Rajpal Kaushik

Town planner: Ashok Kumar Mishra

Project engineer : Babu Ram

AGM in group housing department : Shailendra Kaire

Finance controller : A C Singh

Apart from the action taken so far, all the officials have been named in a chargesheet

SIT formed by UP Govt

Last year, the Supreme Court also passed directions to the Uttar Pradesh government to form a special investigation team (SIT) to probe the alleged “collusion” between the Supertech group and the Noida authority.

During investigation, the SIT found 26 officials of the Noida authority, who allegedly gave approval to the Supertech group’s changed building plans that led to the construction of the twin towers. Out of the 26 officials, 20 have retired, two are dead and four are still in service.

On the basis of the SIT report, a case was registered on October 4, 2021, in which four directors of Supertech were also named. The vigilance department in Lucknow registered an FIR against the concerned officials and also ordered a departmental enquiry.

3 Noida fire officials named in FIR

Three former chief fire officers violated norms by granting a no-objection certificate to Supertech group. All the three officers have retired now

-Mahavir Singh

Police registered an FIR against the three officials from the Noida fire department.

Later, the deputy inspector general of fire services, Akash Kulhari, director J K Singh and Animesh Kumar submitted their own departmental enquiry report.
