Delhi High Court has refused to halt the Competition Commission of India (CCI) probe against WhatsApp and Facebook.
A Delhi High Court division bench on Thursday refused to interfere in the Competition Commission of India (CCI) probe initiated against WhatsApp and its parent company, Facebook (now Meta), over the messaging platform’s new privacy policy.
WhatsApp and Facebook had appealed before the division bench challenging the single-judge order which had refused to halt the probe earlier. The division bench had reserved its orders on July 25 after hearing extensive arguments from all parties.
In January, the Competition Commission initiated a probe against the social media giants on its own on the basis of media reports that were filed citing security concerns over WhatsApp’s new privacy policy.
Allegations of “excessive data collection” and “unauthorised sharing of customers’ data” were raised in these reports. CCI had accused WhatsApp and its parent company, Facebook, of abusing its dominant position.
