5G price in India: During the I-Day speech, PM Modi said that 5G will launch in India very soon. Telecom companies have been working on the 5G rollout for a long time now, so we can expect the service to be officially available in just a few months from now. Some reports, in fact, suggest that Jio and Airtel will launch their 5G services, at least the first phase, later this month. Vi is also working hard to launch its 5G service soon. All that said, how much will you need to pay to use 5G services in India?
While telecom operators are yet to confirm the prices, Airtel CEO Gopal Vittal recently told India Today Tech that Airtel’s 5G prices in India will be almost at par with 4G plans. “We will know the final costs only after the spectrum auction. If you look at other markets, where operators are already proving 5G, we haven’t seen them charging a premium for it over 4G,” he said during an interaction a few months ago.
Jio and Vi haven’t revealed too many details about 5G prices in India. But we do believe that the 5G plans from Jio and Vi will be competitive with those of Airtel’s. In other words, contradicting past reports that 5G plans will be way more expensive than 4G plans, we can actually expect 5G services to be available at affordable pricing, at least initially.
It is believed that telcos may increase prices eventually in the following months. Something that happened when 4G was launched in India and the first to do that was Reliance Jio. There’s still no clarity on who will bring 5G services first in the country. The fight is tough between Reliance Jio and Airtel. Both these telecom operators are working hard to launch 5G services first in the country and only time will say who will actually take the lead.
Now, the question is when will 5G actually launch in India?
That’s still a mystery. There’s no clarity on the same yet. Some reports though suggest that Airtel and Jio will launch their first phase of 5G services by the end of the year. While other reports suggest that the 5G services will officially launch by the end of this year and a wider rollout will happen in the first part of next year.
PM Modi recently said during his Independence Day speech that 5G speed will be 10X faster than 4G speed. Now, it is also said that 5G will reduce latency to less than 1 millisecond from the current 50ms (approx).
According to a recent survey by Ookla, around 89 percent of Indian smartphone users are ready to upgrade to 5G. The survey also shows that the majority of people plan to upgrade to 5G as soon as service is available in their area and would also consider switching telcos if required.
