An important proposal of the Transport Department was passed by the UP Cabinet on Tuesday following which school buses, cabs and office vehicles would be required to pay only one tax in Delhi NCR.
As per this, only one tax will have to be paid by those operating from states such as Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan.
Although this would lead to a loss of Rs 12 crore annually in tax receipts for the UP government, it would immensely benefit the people.
Till now, one had to pay separate taxes in each state. This decision will give relief to the lakhs of people living in NCR in UP who travel to these states on a regular basis for schooling or official purposes.
Now these would be exempted from paying road tax.
The decision was approved in a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday.
Speaking about the decision, Minister Daya Shankar Singh told India Today, “The transport department of the state has signed an agreement between four states, Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan and UP regarding road tax.” He said that with this decision, small commercial vehicles like school buses, cabs, office cabs, laborers will be able to travel in all the four states.
Daya Shankar Singh further said it will benefit the eight districts of NCR which fall under Uttar Pradesh and the commute among these four states will be easy. It is estimated that there will be a loss of 12 crores to UP transport, but people will get relief from this, he added.
For this, Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh have given their consent regarding this decision, so people will get the direct benefit soon. The cabinet has today given the approval and soon after the signatory the decision will be implemented.
