Instagram conversations, popularly known as Direct Messages (DMs), will soon allow users to make purchases straight from the site. The news was made in a blog post by the organization. The Meta-owned platform stated that the functionality will be supported by a limited number of certified small enterprises. After placing an order in a chat thread, the user will be able to make payment, monitor the order, and so on from the chat.

“Each week, one billion people message a business across our family of apps — whether it’s chatting with brands, browsing products, asking for support or interacting with stories. We want to help people start conversations with businesses they care about and help them find and buy products they love in an easy, seamless experience, right from the chat thread,” the company said.
Limited Businesses
It is unclear how many businesses will be permitted to make use of the feature. Instagram hinted that when the service expands, more businesses will be granted access. In the near future, the ability to make payments in conversations will be expanded to include more and more accounts.

Users will be able to contact a company about any item they like in their store, and then make further requests within the chat, according to Instagram. This will include the ability to track orders, ask follow-up inquiries to the firm, and so on. However, users will have to rely on Meta Pay, the company’s own payment method, to complete transactions. This implies that the functionality may initially be confined to the US market only.
