New Delhi: Amul is known for experimenting with Indian flavours and ingredients to bring out exciting new ice creams and drinks to target children and young adults, but with its latest flavour, the brand might have found its admirers in older folks. Amul has introduced a new flavour in its ice cream portfolio, called Isabcool ice cream and netizens can not keep calm after discovering that it has Isabgol, a common laxative used in Indian households, in it.
The new flavour also backs Gujarat’s Indian Premier League (IPL) team ‘Gujarat Titans’, and its Captain “Isabcool”.
What is Isabgol?
Isabgol, also known as psyllium husk, is a common laxative used by Indians. It is a dietary fibre that helps to increase stool and relieve constipation. The insoluble fibre present in psyllium husk causes the stool to soften and bulky, thereby improving gut movement. It also reduces the inflammation in piles due to its anti-inflammatory property. Isabgol is one of the most commonly used home remedies for constipation. It is also good for diabetic patients as it helps to manage blood glucose levels.
Isabgol can help in losing weight too. According to Healthline, psyllium husk stimulates the immune system, aids in colon cleansing, and improves digestion, which further helps in resistance to fat growth and weight loss.
How Internet Reacted To Isabcool?
As Sofubi-P’s famous song goes- “Love Me, Hate Me, but You Can’t Ignore Me”, Amul’s latest offering received a lot of attention from netizens- albeit, a mixed bag of it. While some felt eager to try it and found “Kabz main Avsar”, others were repelled by the concept of an ice cream fortified with a laxative, and said “No Thanks”.
Many people also pointed out that lactose-intolerant people will have to spend days on the pot after eating the ice cream because of the laxative present in it.
However, others found a “cool way of relieving constipation.” “Na dard, an jalan, only pleasure,” wrote a user.
Some netizens also joke that hopefully, Amul won’t sell the new flavour in the pharmacy.
A Twitter user pointed out that Isabcool could be a “clever way to feed laxatives to kids lmfao.”
While others jokingly called it ice cream for their 30s.
Well love it or hate it, but, Amul’s new offering has definitely grabbed everyone’s attention. It has the potential to find its way to dessert plates of many elderly people with a sweet tooth.
