Benchmarks Nifty50 slipped below 15,800 and the Sensex slid over 1100 points ahead of CPI data, which saw India’s annual retail inflation peaking to an eight-year high. Nifty midcap and small cap indices too declined around 2% as unabated profit booking continued in small cap and mid cap stocks.
Meanwhile, Asian markets were trading in the green on Friday morning. Japanese Nikkei 225 was up over 2%, Hang Seng Index at the Hong Kong Exchange gained more than 1.5% and Shanghai Composite over half per cent in the early trade on Friday.
In a good sign for the domestic market, the SGX Nifty too returned in the green, gaining more than 150 points in early trade on Friday.
Earlier, the US markets saw a mixed closing as Dow Jones ended lower by more than 100 points, Nasdaq ended marginally higher by 0.06%, while S&P 500 dropped around 0.13%.
