Follow Covid rules if you don’t want curbs: Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray amid fears of fourth wave

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has asked citizens to wear masks and get vaccinated to avoid the imposition of restrictions amid fears of a fourth wave of the Covid pandemic.

He said he is going to write a letter to the Union government seeking to make vaccination mandatory and also reduce the gap of nine months to be eligible for the precautionary dose.

“As compared to the figures of last month, the number of Covid patients in the state is on the rise and the possibility of a fourth wave is predicted. If the restrictions are not to be enforced in the state again, stop the fourth wave before it spreads its tentacles. Tests and vaccinations should gain momentum,” he said.

On April 27, the Maharashtra Chief Minister interacted with all the Divisional Commissioners, District Magistrates, Commissioners of the Municipal Corporations, Chief Executive Officers of the Zilla Parishads and police officers through video conferencing and took stock of the situation.

“Covid is not yet over. Various new mutants of the virus are found across the globe. Presently in China, 40 crore people are under lockdown. We had successfully battled the first three waves of the dreaded virus but yet we lost many of our loved ones. Restrictions were enforced because of which the economic wheel slowed down and many lost their jobs. If we want to avoid all this again, we will have to follow the Covid appropriate behaviour (CAB) stringently,” he said.

Uddhav Thackeray has also instructed the administration to create awareness in every district over the current situation.
