The Uttar Pradesh government has issued fresh guidelines for schools in light of the rising number of Covid-19 cases in the state in recent days.
According to the new directives, masks have been made mandatory for all students, teachers and other staff in schools in Noida, Ghaziabad, Meerut, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Baghpat and Lucknow.
Entry to school would be allowed only after thorough hand wash and/or hand sanitization.
Similar instructions have been issued for schools in Delhi to curb the spread of the infection. Schools in the national capital have also asked to conduct thermal scanning at the entrance and set up hand sanitisation points across the campus.
If a Covid case is reported, schools have to temporarily cordon off the particular wing or section of the school, the guidelines issued by the Delhi government’s Directorate of Education said.
With 2,527 fresh Covid infections being reported in a day, India’s total tally of cases rose to 4,30,54,952, while active cases have increased to 15,079, according to data shared by the Union Health Ministry on Saturday.
The death toll has climbed to 5,22,149 with 33 fatalities, while the daily positivity rate stood at 0.56 per cent.
Meanwhile, the Centre said Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a meeting with chief ministers on the emerging Covid-19 situation in the country on Wednesday through video conference.
