Android allows you to customise your phone in a plethora of ways, from the colour and shape of your app icons to your preferred method of system navigation. This customization extends to your default app for common tasks such as making phone calls and texting. Perhaps you’d rather use a web browser with more privacy features, or switch to Google Assistant for Alexa.
TYPES OF APPS TO ASSIGN NEW DEFAULTS:
- Web browser
- Caller ID and spam blocker
- Digital assistant
- Home app
- Phone
- SMS (chat)
STEPS TO CHANGE DEFAULT APP:
- Go to the Play Store and install the new app that you want to make the default
- Go to Settings > Apps and then tap Default apps under ‘General’
- Choose the app that you want to replace. The current default app, as well as any other apps you’ve downloaded, will be displayed on the next menu screen
- Choose the app you want to be the default.
HOW YOUR PHONE HANDLES LINKS:
- Tap Opening links at the very bottom of the Default app menu screen
- Select the app you want to change the behaviour of from the list of installed apps
- Open supported links by tapping (or toggling on)
- On some devices, you may have the option to have the phone ask whether to open links or to have it open them automatically in the app without prompting.
