Petrol, diesel prices hiked for 13th time in last 15 days, total increase reaches Rs 9.20; check new rates here

New Delhi | Jagran Business Desk: In another strike on the pocket of the common man, the oil manufacturing companies (OMCs) on Tuesday again hiked petrol and diesel prices by 80 paise a litre taking the overall increase in the last fifteen days to Rs 9.20 per litre. Rates have been increased across the country and vary from state to state depending upon the incidence of local taxation.

With today’s hike, which was the 13th in the last 15 days, Petrol in Delhi will now cost Rs 104.61 per litre as against Rs 103.81 previously, while diesel rates have gone up from Rs 95.07 per litre to Rs 95.87.

This is the 13th increase in prices since the ending of a four-and-half-month long hiatus in rate revision on March 22. In all, petrol and diesel prices have gone up by Rs 9.20 per litre.

In Gurugram, one litre of petrol will cost Rs 105.60 and Rs 93.30 for one litre of diesel. In Mumbai, the petrol and diesel prices have gone up by 84 paise, to Rs 119.67 and diesel price went up by 85 paise to Rs 103.92 per litre respectively.

In Chennai, the petrol and diesel prices are at Rs 110.09 and Rs 100.18 per litre. In Kolkata, the price of petrol is Rs 114.28 (increased by 83 paise) and diesel is Rs 99.02 (increased by 80 paise). In Bengaluru, one litre of petrol will cost Rs 110.25 and one litre of diesel will cost Rs 94.01.

Prices are set to be raised further given the sharp jump in crude oil prices in the international markets. It will have a cascading impact on the prices of other items and lead to inflationary pressure and hurt growth while also impacting the prices of other items.

Meanwhile, Rajya Sabha proceedings were a washout on Monday as a united opposition protested pressing for a discussion on rising prices of fuel and essential commodities. Opposition members also staged a walkout in the Lok Sabha with several of them raising the issue during Zero Hour.

In the Upper House of Parliament, Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu did not allow adjournment notices moved by opposition members on the issue of price rise, prompting members of the Congress, TMC, left parties, DMK, AAP, NCP, RJD and Shiv Sena to create an uproar. The Rajya Sabha was adjourned twice during the pre-lunch period and was adjourned soon after it met after lunch.
