The Minister informed the Assembly as a response to Leader of Opposition Edappadi K Palaniswami’s call attention motion to ban online gambling.
Chennai: Tamil Nadu government informed the state Assembly that it is committed to banning online gambling games, on Tuesday. It also said that the existing law to curb online games will be invoked after the Supreme Court verdict.
According to a report on PTI, Tamil Nadu Law Minister S Regupathy said, Chief Minister MK Stalin is aware of the ill effects of online gambling games since it has destroyed many families. Also, recalling the past, he said, the previous AIADMK government promulgated an ordinance but passed it in a hurry due to which Madras High Court struck down the ordinance in August last year.
Yet, we have moved to Supreme Court challenging Madras High Court order and for upholding the law promulgated by AIADMK government.
“We hope Apex Court will deliver a good verdict,” he said.
The Minister made the announcement as a response to Leader of Opposition Edappadi K Palaniswami’s call attention motion to ban online gambling.
On Tuesday, Former CM Palaniswami said, the state government should take strict action to ban online rummy since several families are getting ruined in the trap. He said, many youngsters get into gambling and lose several lakhs of rupees while some of them who borrowed heavy sums for gambling have also killed themselves.
The Opposition leader also recalled the ordinance promulgated by AIADMK government in 2020 to ban online gambling.
