Opener Yastika Bhatia was dismissed for 28 off 59 balls. Lea Tahuhu bagged her second wicket with India needing a further 211 runs to win in 30 overs at a run-rate of over 7 runs.
Team India suffered a second blow in the first 10 overs of their chase as all-rounder Deepti Sharma was dismissed for 5 off 13 balls. Deepti Sharma followed dashing opener Smriti Mandhana back to the pavilion. Veteran White Ferns pacer Lea Tahuhu appealed successfully for a review against Deepti to dismiss her leg-before. New Zealand White Ferns pacer Jess Kerr dismissed Mandhana for a sedate 6 off 21 balls as Team India struggled to 11/1 in the first six overs.
Vice-captain Harmanpreet Kaur is now in the middle with Mithali Raj and the duo have a massive task at hand if they want to chase down this total by New Zealand.
Skipper Mithali Raj has joined Yastika Bhatia in the middle. Yastika has been brough into the match to replace out-of-form opener Shafali Verma. Mandhana had scored a fine half-century in the first World Cup match against Pakistan.
Veteran Team India pacer Jhulan Goswami picked up her record 39th wicket in women’s World Cup matches to put her at equal highest wicket-taker in the history of the tournament with Australia’s Lyn Fulleston. Goswami dismissed New Zealand’s Katey Martin for 41 in the final ball of the innings as India restricted the White Ferns to 260/9 .
Jhulan ended with figures of 1/41 in nine overs and Mithali Raj’s team will need 261 runs to win to claim their second successive victory in the ongoing World Cup. All-rounder Pooja Vastrakar picked up wickets off successive deliveries in the 47th over of the White Ferns innings to reduce them to 240/8. Vastrakar finishes with superb figures of 4/33 in 10 overs.
India’s pace bowling all-rounder Vastrakar made up for dropping a simple catch of Katey Martin off Rajeshwari Gayakwad by dismissing New Zealand captain Amy Satterthwaite in the next over for 75 off 84 balls. She ended up with 3/19 in his final six over spell.
Deepti Sharma provided much-needed breakthrough for Mithali Raj’s side as New Zealand lost Maddy Green for a well-made 27 off 36 balls. New Zealand women are 178/4 in 34 overs with skipper Amy Satterthwaite going strong on an unbeaten 53 off 62 in their ICC Women’s World Cup 2022 match in Hamilton on Thursday (March 10).
Green had put on 54 runs for the fourth wicket with Satterthwaite before going for a big blow off the Indian spinner only to hit it straight down the throat of Smriti Mandhana at long-on. Deepti now has 1/29 in five over with Katey Martin joining Satterthwaite in the middle.
Left-arm spinner Rajeshwari Gayakwad had bagged the big wicket of in-form New Zealand batter Amelia Kerr. Gayakwad has trapped Kerr in front of the stumps for a fine 50 off 64 balls.
