Covid Update: India Reports 30,757 Infections In Last 24 Hrs, Positivity Rate At 2.61%

New Delhi: India has reported 30,757 fresh COVID cases which is almost the same as yesterday, 541 people succumbed to the virus on Wednesday while the country registered 67,538 recoveries in the last 24 hours

Maharashtra

Maharashtra on Wednesday recorded 2,748 new coronavirus cases, including 111 of the Omicron variant, and 41 fresh fatalities linked to the infection, according to the state health department

With the inclusion of fresh infections, the state’s caseload reached 78,50,494, while the death toll increased to 1,43,492, according to a PTI report. 

On Tuesday, the state had recorded 2,831 infections and 35 fatalities.

On Omicron, a department bulletin said, “111 (new) patients with the Omicron infection have been reported in the state. All these patients have been reported by the National Institute of Virology (based in Pune, where swab samples were sent for genome sequencing). Of the 111 infections, Ahmednagar reported 21, Navi Mumbai (19), Jalna and Yavatmal (15 each), Aurangabad (10), Nagpur and Mumbai (nine each), Thane Municipal Corporation (6) and Mira Bhayander Municipal Corporation (three), among others.

Punjab

The poll-bound state recorded 347 fresh cases in the last 24 hours which increased the overall Covid tally to 7,56,456 on Wednesday while the death toll climbed to 17,635 as five more people succumbed to the viral disease.

Of the fresh cases, Mohali reported 50, followed by 37 in Fazilka and 29 in Ludhiana, the bulletin said.

The latest deaths were reported from Faridkot, Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar and Sangrur.

There are 2,706 active COVID-19 cases in Punjab. While 170 patients are on oxygen support, 18 critical patients are on ventilator support, the bulletin stated.
