The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has said that members can e-file nomination for their EPF accounts beyond December 31, 2021. According to a tweet on the EPFO’s official Twitter account, “No deadline has been fixed for filing e-nominations as of now.” Earlier, it had been reported in some media (not ET.com) that EPFO had fixed a deadline for e-filing EPF nomination. However, now EPFO has clarified the matter via a tweet.
In a circular dated September 12, 2019, the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) announced that it had launched an e-nomination facility. This facility can be availed from the EPFO’s member sewa portal.
The rules of nomination in your EPF account and EPS (Employees’ Pension Scheme) account are different. As per the EPF Act, only defined family members can be nominated in your EPF account. Under the EPF Act- “family” means— (i) in the case of a male member, his wife, his children (whether married or unmarried), his dependant parents and his deceased son’s widow and children and ii) in the case of a female member, her husband, her children (whether married or unmarried), her dependant parents, her husband’s dependant parents and her deceased son’s widow and children.
Members of the EPF can make changes to their EPF nominations online. An EPF member does not need to seek this from his or her employer; instead, they can modify their EPF nominations online through the EPFO UAN portal.
