The Krishna Paksha Ekadashi is known as Utpanna Ekadashi, which falls after the Kartik Purnima. The name Utpanna means the emergence or birth, which is associated with the feminine power of Goddess Ekadashi. This year Utpanna Ekadashi arrives on November 30, 2021.
This is the next Ekadashi that occurs after Devutthana Ekadashi. The day is followed by a fast which devotees break the next day.
History of Utpanna Ekadashi 2021:
The emergence of Utpanna Ekadashi is brought out in the story where the Pandava king Yudhisthira asks Lord Krishna to narrate the story of Goddess Ekadashi who came into existence on this day.
Then, Lord Krishna said that a demon called Mura lived in Satyuga and gradually became powerful. So, the devas requested Lord Vishnu to end Muras’ tyranny.
While Lord Vishnu was asleep, the demon Mura chased him and tried killing him but he failed as Goddess Ekadashi emerged out of Lord Vishnu’s body and gave an end to Mura.
Therefore, the devotees who worship Lord Vishnu embrace the tradition of worshipping Goddess Ekadashi on the day of Margashirsha, Krishna Paksha Ekadashi.
Besides keeping a fast on this day, devotees also donate food and essentials to the needy.
