A 32-year-old man, a resident of Karnal, was arrested by Chandigarh police with 11gm cocaine at a naka in Sector 23 on Sunday. The man, identified as Badal, was heading to Sector 26 when police caught him following a tip-off.
According to a report published in the Tribune, the police said that the suspect used to procure drugs from Delhi and supply them in the city. The report said that Badal is unemployed and had previously been booked in two attempt-to-murder cases in Haryana.
A police officer was quoted by Hindustan Times (HT) as saying that the suspect is not a drug addict. He came to Chandigarh in 2019 and made some contact. The officer said that Badal has contacts in some of the famous hotels and discos in the city in Sector 26 where he would supply cocaine for Rs 8,000 per gram.
Police have registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Sector 17 police station. The suspect was sent to a three-day police remand after being produced in a court on Sunday, the report said. Police said that more arrests are likely in the case.
