Every Google account comes with 15GB of free storage on Google drive. A user can take advantage of this cloud storage by uploading files and folders from a desktop or mobile device. Google drive supports all file types, which means you can upload any file from your computer or phone to the cloud.
Drive can also preview certain file types in-browser, preventing you from having to download and open them in order to see their contents.
Steps to uploading files to Google Drive on the Desktop:
- To start uploading files to Google Drive, open a web browser on your computer and launch the Google Drive site.
- Sign in to the site with a Google account
- Open the folder in which you want to add files
- From the left sidebar, select New>File upload
- Your computer’s standard ‘open’ window will open
- In this window, select the files you wish to upload to the cloud
- To select multiple files, hold down Ctrl on Windows or Command on Mac while clicking the files
- Then, click ‘Open’
- At the lower-right corner on the Google drive site, you will see uploading all your files pop-up
- This section will display a green checkmark next to the files that are successfully uploaded.
Do not close this tab during the process, although you may open other tabs.
Steps to uploading files to a Google drive on Mac:
- To upload files from your iPhone, iPad or Android phone to Google Drive, first launch the Google Drive app on your phone.
- Open the folder in which you want to add new files
- Then, in the app’s bottom-right corner, tap the ‘+’ sign
- A ‘Create New’ menu opens. Here, tap ‘Upload’
- The file manager on your phone will open and select the file or files you’d like to upload.
- To select multiple files, tap and hold on the first file and then tap any other files you’d like to add
- And the drive app will start uploading the selected files to your account.
