Delhi University campus will not reopen till DDMA allows 100 percent seating capacity: Official

Delhi University will not reopen its campus until DDMA will allow 100 percent capacity, said a university official.

On Tuesday, a senior Delhi University official said that the university will not be reopened till DDMA will allow 100 percent seating capacity. The official further added that they will hold a meeting after 10 days to decide on the reopening of the university.

With the admission process going in full swing, several student bodies and teachers are demanding the reopening of the campus.

“How can we reopen until and unless the DDMA allows 100 percent seating capacity? Sixty percent of students of the university are from outside Delhi. We can’t ask them to come here, stay in a hostel and take online classes since only 50 percent seating capacity is allowed,” said Delhi University Registrar Vikas Gupta, as reported by PTI.

He added that till the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) gives clear guidelines on 100 percent seating capacity, we cannot make the decision on reopening.

The university has, however, resumed laboratory classes for final year undergraduate and postgraduate students from September 16 but the attendance has been thin.

On November 9, the university also released the academic calendar for the first-year undergraduate and first-year postgraduate courses on its official website.
