GURUGRAM: A couple has been booked for allegedly duping a retired defence officer’s wife of Rs 12 lakh on the pretext of investment in property. The couple also persuaded her into finding buyers for various properties in Gurugram by promising her a share of the incentives they would receive from builders for the sales, police said.
The accused have been identified as Vijay Singh Sangwan and his wife Puja. According to the complainant, who is the wife of a retired group captain and lives in Sector 57, she became acquainted with the couple in October 2019. They soon became friends and the couple frequently met the complainant.
She has alleged that the couple claimed to be property investors and promised her good returns if she joined them. They also offered her an incentive of Rs 1 lakh on each sale made by her efforts.
The complainant said she facilitated bookings of seven units in properties of two different builders for the couple, investing in them herself or securing investments from her friends. The cost of the units was over Rs 11 crore, she said. The couple allegedly persuaded her to invest in a project in Chattarpur. She paid the couple Rs 5.5 lakh in July 2020 and another Rs 6.5 lakh next month, she said.
After receiving the money, however, they allegedly began avoiding her calls and messages. She later found that the investments in Chhatarpur had been made without including her name in the booking. She also found that the couple had similarly duped others as well, she said in her complaint.
“An FIR was registered against the couple under sections 120B (criminal conspiracy) and 420 (cheating) of the IPC at Sector 56 police station on Sunday. Investigation is underway,” said a senior police official.
