TCS wins 10-year contract from Transport for London

Bengaluru: Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (TCS NSE 0.46 %) has won a 10-year contract from Transport for London to design, implement and operate a cloud-based smart mobility system for administration of London’s 115,000 taxis and private hire vehicles.

Transport for London (TfL) is a local government body responsible for most of the transport network in the city, including the London Underground, Docklands Light Railways, buses, taxis, trams and river services.

As part of the ten-year contract, which can be extended by five more years, TCS will build and operate a system for managing records, licensing payments and refunds to vehicle operators and owners, fully through digital channels.

“The new TCS designed technology system will meet TfL’s key objectives, enhance customer experience and enable future requirements including connected, shared, electric, autonomous vehicle registrations,” said Amit Kapur, country head for TCS UK and Ireland.

The platform will include front-end interfaces as well as back-end integrations to allow activities such as booking, personal detail processing and vehicle inspections. It will adopt a self-service approach and will be scalable to accommodate future growth and avoid outages. It will also allow Transport for London to access transportation data from taxis and private hire vehicles on-demand, and will be hosted on Amazon Web Services.

“An efficient and effective licensing system is paramount for any regulator overseeing taxi and private hire operations in a world city,” said Graham Robinson, general manager-taxi and private hire at Transport for London. “We are pleased to have signed this contract with TCS, as it ensures our business keeps pace with technological developments and gives the best possible service to licensees.”
