New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will kick off a week-long campaign in Haryana on Sunday to support the ongoing agitation of farmers against the three controversial farm laws.
The ‘Kisan Mazdoor Khet Bachao Yatra’ will begin from Rohtak and cover nearly 4,000 km in Haryana, where a group of protesting farmers was recently lathicharged by police.
According to AAP MP Sushil Gupta, the party will cover all 90 assembly constituencies in Haryana. The campaign will start on September 5 from Sir Chhotu Ram’s memorial in Rohtak and culminate on September 13 in Palwal, from where Mahatma Gandhi was arrested during the freedom struggle.
Pointing at the plight of farmers and “apathetic” attitude of Central and Haryana governments towards them, Gupta said farmers have been agitating against the farm laws for over nine months, but the government is just not concerned about their situation.
The Aam Aadmi Party’s rally has come on the heels of Haryana Police’s lathi charge on protesting farmers in Karnal last week.
Lashing out at the BJP-led Haryana government over the lathi charge incident, Gupta said the govt has committed “excesses” on farmers as was “witnessed during the British time”.
He claimed that it is not for the first time that the state government has ordered lathi charge on farmers.
“Now, their officers are even giving orders to break heads of farmers,” he said recalling the controversial video in which Karnal SDM was heard asking police officials to “break the heads” of protesters.
