GURUGRAM: A 500 square yard plot in Sector 52, whose market value runs into several crores, was sold by fraudsters with the help of forged signatures and documents. The plot is owned by an 86-year-old woman, whose son is an inspector general of Haryana Police.
The alleged fraud came to light when Sushila Singh (86), resident of Gandhi Nagar in Jind district of Haryana, recently visited the plot (number 552-P) and found a building constructed upon it. She checked with HSVP and discovered that the plot was sold a few years back with her forged signature. A case has been registered against five people at the Sadar police station, of which two have been arrested by police.
“I purchased the plot of land some two decades back. Due to my old age, I am not able to visit Gurugram frequently. Around 3-4 months back, I visited Gurugram and to my surprise found that some people had constructed houses on my plot,” she said in her police complaint.
Sushila subsequently visited the HSVP office in Gurugram and came to know that the plot was sold with her forged signature, and that too, by a person known to her family. “Atul Goyal, a resident of Sector 90, is behind the fraud. He used to visit our house often. I had never thought that he would dupe us like this,” said the woman, whose son is currently posted as an IG at the Police Training Centre in Madhuban.
According to Sushila, Atul had forged her signature and sold the land to two men, Kamal Singhal and Pankaj Goyal, who, in turn, sold it to Bimla Bhargav and Praveen Bhargav. “The signature on the sale deed is not mine. The accused had filed a series of applications and affidavits with HSVP with forged signatures and documents. The affidavit was identified by Atul Goyal, which shows his involvement in the fraud.”
“After discovering the fraud, I had requested the accused to return the plot but they threatened to kill me,” she said in her complaint.
Based on the complaint, a case was registered under sections 420 (cheating), 467 (forging document), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), 471 (using forged document), 120B (criminal conspiracy) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of IPC at Sadar police station against Atul, Kamal, Pankaj, Bimla and Praveen Bhargav in the last week of July.
SHO of Sadar police station Dinesh Kumar said that two accused, including the prime suspect, Atul, were arrested on Monday. “Atul was produced in a court and remanded in police custody. We are trying to track down the other accused. Investigation is in progress,” he said.
There have been multiple cases of property fraud in Gurugram, wherein fraudsters with the help of fake documents sold prime residential plots worth several crores without the knowledge of the original land owner. Last year, the Gurugram police busted a gang that had sold multiple plots using fake documents.
