The CBI is likely to deliver its final verdict over the revocation of bail of Andhra CM Jagan Mohan Reddy in a quid pro quo case.
Hyderabad: A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court is expected to announce its verdict on a petition seeking revocation of bail plea of Andhra Pradesh Chef Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy in a disproportionate assets income case on Wednesday. The petition was filed by YSR Congress Party rebel MP Raghuram Krishnaraju eight years ago in the quid pro quo case.
The CBI counsel told the court that no information was received from the CBI higher authorities in Delhi and sought time again for written submissions in the petition. However, MP Krishnaraju’s lawyer Venkatesh appealed to the court not to give a deadline.
The tribunal, which heard arguments from both sides, said the trial in the case was over.
CM Jagan and counsel for the petitioner had previously said that despite the resignation, CBI officials were leaving it to the discretion of the court. The remand mention that the court must take legal action on whether or not to cancel the bail.
Raju’s primary contention in the plea filed is against Jagan acting in a manner intimidatory through his administrative decsisions. He said the witnesses cited by the prosecution may feel intimidated to depose against him.
“The appointment of several accused in the case in key positions of the government is one such step,” he said.
The judge clarified that it could not afford to allot any more time to the CBI to convey its position. The CBI counsel said they would prefer to maintain the non-committal stance taken earlier, leaving it to the court’s discretion.
