Sikkim opens Yumthang Valley for tourists

The Sikkim state government has now opened the famous Yumthang Valley in Lachung village for tourists. This move comes after a week the state eased travel restrictions in several other tourist destinations, such as Nathula, Tsomgo Lake, and Baba Mandir.

Welcoming the decision, Lachung Dzumsa, a local body that oversees tourism activities in the North Sikkim village, stated that they would ensure that COVID-related guidelines are strictly followed.

As per the reports, tourists started visiting famous East Sikkim destinations of Baba Mandir and Tsomgo Lake as soon as they were also thrown open for the visitors last week. Reports have it that in the coming days, the state government will also take the decision on opening up another favourite destination of tourists, i.e., Gurudongmar Lake in Lachen village in North Sikkim. Referring to this, an official in the know-how stated that Gurudongmar Lake will be opened only after holding a meeting with concerned officials.

Sikkim closed its popular tourist destinations from March this year, after the country started witnessing a surge in COVID-19 cases. As reported earlier, the administration started welcoming tourists from July with fully vaccinated certificates, and allowed homestays and hotels to operate at 50 percent capacity.

Reportedly, those vaccinated with single shots will be required to produce a negative RT-PCR test report that should not be older than 72 hours before arrival, whereas those who are fully vaccinated are allowed to enter the state without any restrictions.
