GANDHINAGAR: After reopening of universities, colleges and school classes from 9-12 after the deadly second wave of the coronavirus pandemic, the Gujarat government is planning to reopen Classes 6-8 after the Rakshabandhan festival on August 22. Key sources close to the development said, “Re-opening of Classes 6-8 for classroom education was discussed at the state cabinet and the government’s high-level committee chaired by the CM. Al lauthorities agreed to restart Classes 6-8 offline at schools, with full adherence to Covid-19 protocols. A formal decision is likely to be announced shortly and could be any time after the Rakshabandhan festival.’’ Classroom education for Classes 6-8 has been suspended since March 2020.
“The education department is preparing guidelines for reopening Classes 6-8. Like other higher standards, the government will make physical attendance at school voluntary. Schools will have to provide online education also simultaneously,’’ said a source.
