GREATER NOIDA: The Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) will develop 14 rural areas under its smart village project and Rs 150 crore has been set aside for the work.
Facilities like panchayat ghars, community centres, parks, drainage network, roads, regular water supply, primary schools and Wi-Fi connectivity have been planned for these areas.
As part of the project, work to lay pipelines for sewage treatment plants (STPs) began across 60 villages in the city from Wednesday.
According to officials, a detailed project report for the smart villages is being prepared and work is expected to start by the end of this year.
In the first phase, 14 villages — Maincha, Chhapraula, Sadullapur, Tilapta Karanwas, Gharbarah, Chirasi, Ladpura, Aminabad (Nyana), Sirsa, Ghanghola, Astauli, Jalpura, Chipyana Khurd-Tigri and Yusufpur Chakshaberi — would be covered.
Earlier this week, the project was inaugurated by MP Mahesh Sharma, Dadri MLA Tejpal Nagar and backward classes commission member Bijendra Bhati.
“These areas will get a facelift and about 40% of local youths can expect employment opportunities in industrial units in GNIDA, Noida Authority and Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) area,” Sharma said.
In the first phase, work is likely to start with Maincha village that has a population of about 6,000. The area will be developed at a cost of Rs 12 crore.
“The target is to complete the work in one year,” said GNIDA chief executive officer Narendra Bhooshan.
“Greater Noida is developing fast and it is among the few places in the country where data centres and electronic goods manufacturing hubs are being planned. We will spend Rs 150 crore to develop villages in this area,” said Bhooshan.
Residents have welcomed the move.
“During monsoon, these villages suffer a lot because there are no proper roads and drainage lines. The Wi-Fi facility will be helpful, especially for children who are mostly having online classes,” said Harinder Bhati, a resident of Sector Beta 1.
The GNIDA also plans to develop Chuharpur, Old Haibatpur, Bisrakh, Haldauni and Richhpal Ghadi subsequently. “The process of preparing a project report is underway,” said Bhooshan.
