The San Francisco International Airport is increasingly becoming a hotspot for vaccination. The airport has surpassed 30000 vaccine doses in August. This indicates that more foreign travellers are interested in vaccine tourism, more so in visiting San Francisco.
Vaccine tourism has become the norm today, a concept that ensures safety during travel for those who have not had the vaccination.
The vaccination drive at the airport’s SFO Medical Clinic is where a free single-dose of Johnson & Johnson vaccine is being administered. Interestingly enough, about 80 percent of the new vaccines are being administered to non-U.S. citizens. Records suggest that visitors from 58 countries have been vaccinated so far.
The vaccination drive was set up at the airport in the month of May.
Ivar C. Satero, Airport Director, said, “This trend truly represents a win-win situation for all. “It ensures that vaccine doses do not go unused by making them available to those who may have trouble accessing it in their home country. It also stimulates travel and visitor spending for the Bay Area, and – most importantly – it helps protect against community spread of the virus. My thanks go out to the entire team for making this program a reality.”
Other destinations across the world are also offering vaccines on arrival, which is a sure way to ensure safety when opening up the tourism sector. Maldives is also planning something similar, but only after citizens of the country have been administered both the doses.
