Former J&K DGP SP Valid said that another 9/11 could be planned in Afghanistan as the Taliban take over control of the country.
As the Taliban take over Afghanistan, former Jammu & Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) SP Vaid said another 9/11 attack could be planned from the war-torn country. The former top cop, in an exclusive conversation with India Today, said that the developments in Afghanistan will embolden terrorists in J&K.
He added that “Pakistan’s ISI may ask the Taliban to divert some of its terrorists to Jammu & Kashmir to revive terror operations.”
“Pakistan will now shift terror training camps of Jaish and Lashkar from Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir to Afghanistan to avoid international scrutiny. Anti-India terror groups would get safe havens in Afghanistan,” the former police chief said.
The Taliban have breached Kabul and entered the presidential palace. President Ashraf Ghani fled the country hours ahead of Kabul’s fall and headed to Tajikistan, where he was denied refuge. Ghani then reached Oman. He earlier took to social media to say that he left the country to avoid bloodshed.
Stating that the Taliban’s rise in Afghanistan will have implications on Jammu & Kashmir and entire South Asia, Vaid remembered how in 1999 the Taliban had helped Pakistani terrorists to hijack the Indian Airlines flight IC-814 after which India was forced to release Maulana Masood Azhar from Kot Bhalwal Jail. Vaid was DIG-Jammu when the incident happened.
“We need to be very cautious. We may have to deal with the alliance of China, Pakistan and the Taliban,” Vaid said, predicting challenging times for India. The statement holds significance as Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan endorsed the Taliban takeover, saying that the Afghans have “broken the shackles of slavery”.
“When you adopt a culture from others, you tend to believe it is superior to yours and you end up becoming a slave to it,” Imran Khan said.
Meanwhile, Beijing also said that it is ready to deepen “friendly and cooperative” relations with Afghanistan.
