BHUBANESWAR: Odisha government will start class XI in 40 Odisha Adarsha Vidyalayas (OAV) from the 2021-22 academic session, admissions for which will start soon. Each of these schools will have 80 seats in science stream, official sources said.
“It is indeed good news that 40 new OAVs will add class XI from this year. Meritorious students can get a chance to pursue their higher secondary courses in these schools. This would certainly help in reducing the likely shortage of seats at higher secondary level due to extra ordinary pass percentage in class X board exams,” said school and mass education minister Samir Ranjan Dash.
“These 40 OAVs will be upgraded to class XI from the 2021-22 academic session. The students passed out from the same school will be given priority and after them outsider students will be allowed to take admission. The selection of students will be done based on their marks and there will be no cut off marks,” said Radha Mohan Panda, deputy director of OAVs.
Of the total 230 OAVs, state-run CBSE affiliated English medium schools, operational each in block level, 60 schools have already been upgraded to class XI and XII level. This year 40 new schools added class XI taking the total number to 100. With class XI opened in 40 OAVs will add as many as 3200 additional seats in the higher secondary level.
Sources said, of the 40 schools in 30 OAVs commerce stream will begin from next academic session. “Teacher recruitment process will begin for starting the commerce stream in these schools from the 2022-23 academic session,” a senior officer added.
OAVs registered a record pass percentage of 98.12% in CBSE’s class X examinations 2021, results of which were declared on Tuesday.
