The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday issued an orange alert for the Konkan region and Goa for July 30-31.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday predicted widespread rainfall over the Konkan region and Goa over the next five days.
There may be substantial rainfall activity in isolated areas of Konkan and Goa over the first three days. There will be heavy to very heavy rainfall on July 30 and 31 and an orange alert has been issued. About 11.5 cm to 20.4 cm rainfall is expected in the next 24 hours.
“Very heavy rainfall is expected as a result of a low-pressure system entering the Indian landmass from the Bay of Bengal and transforming into a well-defined low-pressure system within 24 hours, which will aid in the strengthening of westerlies,” said Dr Anupam Kashyapi, weather head at IMD Pune.
The westerly winds will strengthen, bringing heavy rain not just in Konkan Goa but also over Maharashtra’s coastal areas.
While Raigad and Ratnagiri will witness severe rainfall on July 28, the Konkan district of Sindhadurg will experience heavy rainfall from July 28 to July 31.
Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar are expected to receive heavy rain on July 30 and 31.
Pune, Satara, and Kolhapur, especially in the ghat section of the Sahyadri mountains, will get heavy rainfall on July 28 and 29 and isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall on July 30 and 31.
In Pune, light rain is predicted over the next two days. Light to moderate rainfall is expected on July 30 and 31, with occasional heavy to very heavy rainfall in ghat areas.
