In view of the improving situation of Coronavirus in the country, the Centre has said that it has been taking up the issue of easing travel restrictions for Indians with foreign governments.
As per the reports, Indian students have been stuck in several countries, including China and Italy, because of travel restrictions.
Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi, during a media briefing, informed that with the improvement in the COVID situation in India, they have been talking with foreign countries about easing travel restrictions for Indians. He added that this will be an important step towards economic recovery. He maintained that so far, there have been some positive results in this direction, and that they hope countries will take steps to normalise the movement of people from India.
Responding to a question on when the World Health Organization (WHO) is expected to recognise Covaxin, he stated that Bharat Biotech Limited, the producer of the vaccine, has already submitted the request to the global body earlier this month, along with all necessary documentation.
He also added that more than half of the member states of the European Union (EU) have now recognised Covishield, which will facilitate travel of Indians in the coming days.
