TRICHY: Vice-chancellor of Madurai Kamaraj University M Krishnan has been appointed as the vice chancellor of Central University of Tamil Nadu (CUTN), Tiruvarur. The appointment was made by President of India Ram Nath Kovind on Thursday, almost 11 months after former vice-chancellor A P Dash remitted office.
His tenure as vice-chancellor of MKU is ending on January 2, 2022. Krishnan, 65, has now been appointed as vice-chancellor of CUTN for a period of five years from the date of assuming office or until he attains the age of 70.
The five-member selection committee headed by former chief election commissioner N Gopalaswami, who is the chancellor of National Sanskrit University (Tirupati), submitted five names for the VC post of CUTN in January this year.
As many as 343 applications were shortlisted during the initial scrutiny. Out of them, 17 were called for an interview on January 8.
A total 16 candidates appeared for the interview at Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University and the committee proposed five names to the ministry of education in mid of January. The ministry submitted its choice to the President of India who made the appointment on Thursday.
