VIJAYAWADA: The Andhra Pradesh government issued a high alert on Thursday about continuous rains in the coastal region with low pressure formed over northwest Bay of Bengal and the neighbourhood.
“Under the influence of low pressure area, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places over coastal Andhra Pradesh and heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places over Rayalaseema on July 22. Heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places over coastal Andhra Pradesh on July 23,” forecast Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Amaravati.
Strong winds with speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph are very likely over south and adjoining central Bay of Bengal and Andhra Pradesh coast during July 22 and 24.
Based on IMD alerts, Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) issued an alert advising fishermen not to venture into the seas.
Andhra Pradesh chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy issued a high alert for district collectors about the rains. He asked them to be prepared to face any kind of emergencies. Meanwhile, heavy rains lashed many districts on Thursday. Low Lying areas in Vijayawada, Guntur, Gudivada and Machilipatnam received heavy rain. There were heavy waterfall in the catchment areas of Pulichintala and Prakasam barrage.
