BENGALURU: In a huge relief for students, many universities have announced the cancellation of second, fourth and sixth (for engineering) semester exams and will instead grade pupils on internal assessments and marks obtained in previous semesters.
The varsities include Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Bangalore University, Bengaluru City University and Bengaluru North University. However, final semester exams will be held.
“Results of the second, fourth, and sixth semesters of BE/BTech/BPlan, eighth semester of BArch, second semester of MArch/MBA/ MTech, second and fourth semester MCA and MTech (parttime), will be processed as per guidelines issued by UGC/AICTE/Government of Karnataka with approval of the university authorities,” said a note from VTU.
The decision comes in the wake of a UGC directive that said “higher education institutions may plan accordingly” in case institutions are located in places where the appropriate government or competent authority has imposed restrictions on gatherings.
“Results will be calculated based on internals and previous semester marks but the formula has to be approved by the executive council and other officials,” said Kairsidappa, VC, VTU. Meanwhile, first semester undergraduate programmes exams — BE/BTech/BPlan/BArch (pending subject) — and postgraduate programmes such as MTech/MArch/MBA/MCA, will be conducted on campus (pen and paper) as per the announced timetable.
The schedule for eighth semester of BE/BTech/ BPlan, fourth semester of MArch/MBA/ MTech and sixth semester MCA examinations have already been notified and will be conducted as per schedule. A separate timetable will be announced for UG /PG programmes classes in blended mode in batches from July 26 onwards.
