AMARAVATI: Tension prevailed near chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s bungalow in Tadepalle on Monday when TDP cadres tried to take out a rally in protest against the job calendar released by the government.
Defying the police restrictions, student and youth activists of TDP and the Left parties made an attempt to barge ahead towards the chief minister’s bungalow. The police prevented the protestors at the old toll gate near Tadepalle and restricted their movement.
The activists shouted slogans against the chief minister and the state government. They demanded that the government should immediately take up recruitment for all available vacancies in the government.
The members of Telugu Nadu Students Federation (TNSF), Students Federation of India (SFI) and All India Students Federation (AISF) reached the spot from different directions on National Highway despite police taking all measures to block movement of the protestors.
Police deployed additional forces to Tadepalle area and cordoned off all the entry and exit points towards the chief minister’s bungalow. Police had deployed drones for effective surveillance near the CM’s bungalow. Guntur urban SP Arif Mohammed, DSP (south) Durga Prasad monitored the situation.
The activists entered into heated debate with the police and demanded that they should be allowed to proceed with their peaceful protest programme. With the police refusing to allow them to go ahead, the protestors squatted on the highway and staged protest against the police. Subsequently, the police detained students and youth leaders and shifted them to Nallapadu police station on the outskirts of Guntur city.
Former minister Nakka Anand Babu and other TDP leaders reached Nallapadu police station and staged protest in front of the police station demanding the immediate release of their activists.
TDP national general secretary Nara Lokesh said that the state government was jittery used massive force to curb protests. He criticized the government for trying to silence the protests instead of making a course correction.
“Y S Jagan had promised to fill nearly 2.3 lakh vacancies after coming into power. He released a fake job calendar with 10,000 vacancies leading to anger among unemployed youth,” said Lokesh. He asked the chief minister if it was correct to give jobs to his own party leaders after announcing a jobless calendar to the unemployed youth.
