Mumbai: Maharashtra is once again facing an interruption in the supply of vaccines. Most of the govt run centres across the state are not operational today.
Mumbai has total 303 BMC and govt (state and central) run Covid vaccination centres. Yesterday BMC declared that due to lack of supply, all the BMC and govt run centres in the city will remain shut on Friday. And once the new stock will come, the vaccination centres will start again.
Before this, on Sunday also, around 140 BMC and govt run centres were shut in Mumbai, again due to lack of supply.
This lack of supply is not just a Mumbai specific issue. Entire Maharashtra is going through the same and most of the centres across the state have run out of stock.
The state was expecting a new stock supply day before yesterday and yesterday. But the stock didn’t come. The state is expecting to receive 09 lakh doses (Covishield and Covaxin) by today afternoon-evening.
So it will be dispatched immediately and if the stock comes today, by tomorrow afternoon-evening, the centres will have the stock.
State immunisation head Dilip Patil told Mirror Now that, “We are doing the inoculation as and when and we are getting the stock. At present the vaccination in the state is affected due to interruption in the supply. But I am optimistic that by today EOD we will get the new stock and by tomorrow afternoon or evening we will once again start the vaccination at all centres.” Maharashtra so far has administered 3.57 crore doses.
