VIJAYAWADA: In a twist to the suicide pact claims, police on Friday said Tejaswini didn’t die by suicide, but was murdered by her reported boyfriend Venkatesh in Gudur town on Wednesday.
Gudur DSP Rajagopal Reddy said the accused first stabbed Tejaswini on the neck and then strangulated her using a towel before hanging her from the fan. “Later Venkatesh too attempted suicide by hanging himself, but was rescued and taken to hospital in a critical condition,” Rajagopal said.
The victim and the accused used to be in a relationship. However, Tejaswini had decided to break the relationship recently and had started distancing herself from him. Cops said they are investigating if any other persons were involved in the crime.
AP women’s commission chairperson Vasireddy Padma visited the girl’s house on Friday and consoled her family members. She also assured them that necessary action would be taken.
“The guilty will not be spared. Such incidents need to be dealt with seriously and sternly. Innocent lives are being taken in the name of love. Strict action will be taken against Venkatesh,” Padma said.
Police have now booked a case under section 302 of IPC (murder) at Gudur police station. Venkatesh, who was in a critical condition but is now stable and recovering at a government hospital, would be arrested as soon as he is discharged from the hospital, cops said.
