The key accused in the Mumbai fake Covid vaccination racket has been arrested by the Mumbai police from Baramati in Maharashtra with help of the local police. Key accused Rajesh Pandey is the 12th person to be arrested in the case.
The vaccination scam in Mumbai came to light in June after residents of a housing society in Kandivali area claimed they were given fake Covid-19 vaccine shots. The residents said they did not have any symptoms or side effects after being administered their doses.
According to Maharashtra health minister Rajesh Tope, a total of 2,040 people have fallen prey to the vaccination scam in Mumbai.
WHO IS RAJESH PANDEY?
Rajesh Pandey formerly worked in the sales department of Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Andheri. As per the allegation against him, he used the name of the hospital and his official email ID to gain the trust of the people when conducting the fake vaccination drive.
After the case came to light, Pandey absconded and the hospital immediately removed him from service.
Pandey, who has been part of the racket from the beginning, will be brought to Mumbai on Thursday. He will be produced in the court for police custody.
According to police officials, his statement will be important and may reveal a lot more about the vaccination scam.
