Covid-19 In Odisha: Dip In Daily Cases Continues, No Let Up In Fatalities

Bhubaneswar: The single-day Covid-19 fatalities continue to remain above 40 even as the daily case count has been witnessing a dip for last several days in Odisha.

The State reported 43 deaths due to the contagious disease in the last 24 hours while daily infections saw a drastic fall with 3, 031 cases reported from across all districts. As many as 11 districts have reported a triple-digit figure in the single-day spike while rests witnessed below 100 cases registered in the last 24 hours.

With seven deaths, Khurdha accounted for the highest fatalities among all while Bargarh and Cuttack reported five fatalities each followed by four in Jharsuguda and Puri each.

Similarly, two patients succumbed to the virus each in Bolangir, Boudh, Sambalpur, Sundergarh district while Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Kendrapara and Rayagada registered one death each during the period.

As many as 5082 people have recovered from the disease over the period taking the recovery tally to 840214 in the State. Active cases in the State currently stand at 36633.  The State has witnessed 880533 positive cases so far.

Out of the new cases, 1738 infections were detected from quarantine centres while 1293 were local contacts.

Khurdha, which continues to see a dip in daily cases is still on the top of the chart with 381 positives followed by Cuttack reporting 295 new infections. Balasore went up to the third position with 290 fresh infections which was followed by Mayurbhanj (167).

Bhadrak, Angul, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Puri, Nayagarh and Jajpur witnessed a triple-digit figure.

Meanwhile, the Odisha government is all set to commence the mass Covid vaccination drive on a campaign mode under the National Covid Vaccination Programme from today with a target to inoculate 3 lakh beneficiaries on daily basis.
