Old Goa will soon be connected with Panjim via cruise services with the inauguration of the second concrete floating jetty in River Mandovi. With this, a new connectivity will be established between the two regions by ferry soon.
The inauguration of the new jetty was done by Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister of State (i/c) for Ports, Shipping and Waterways. During the ceremony, the Chief Minister of Goa Pramod Sawant was also present at the venue.
Mandaviya took to Twitter to announce the news and tweeted, “Virtually inaugurated ‘Concrete Floating Jetty’ at Old Goa in presence of Goa CM @DrPramodPSawant Ji and Shri @shripadynaik Ji today. Transforming the lives of the local populace, the installation of Floating Jetty will unfold newer avenues in tourism & economy”.
It was the Statehood Day of Goa when the inauguration was done. After the ceremony, the Union Minister said that Old Goa and Panjim will soon be connected through cruises and ferries, hoping that it will be a game changer for the tourism sector.
The Minister further said that the jetty will offer safe and easy transportation to tourists coming to Goa. The project of setting two concrete floating jetties in Goa was approved by the Government of India before. It was decided to build the jetties on River Mandovi to connect the two regions to make the travel hassle-free.
In February 2020, Goa launched the first floating jetty at Captain of Ports, Panjim. Now, with the launch of a second jetty, the state really hopes for a boom in the tourism sector.
