Income Tax Dept to launch new ITR filing portal on June 7: All you need to know

The Income Tax Department is all set to launch a new web portal for taxpayers from next month. On this portal, taxpayers will be able to file income tax returns (ITR) and a few other tax-related tasks.

Officials from the tax department told news agency PTI that the new portal will be made more user-friendly. Individuals should note that the existing web portal will be shut for six days between June 1-6.

An order was earlier issued by the systems wing of the tax department on Wednesday regarding the transition. The old portal www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in will change to www.incometaxgov.in.

“In preparation of this launch and for migration activities, the existing portal of the department at www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in would not be available for a brief period of six days from June 1 to 6,” the order said.

The portal is likely to become operational from June 7

ALL ABOUT THE NEW PORTAL

Taxpayers will be able to use the new e-filing portal to file their individual or business category income tax returns (ITRs) and also raise complaints seeking refunds and other works with the tax department.

Meanwhile, officials from the tax department can use the portal to issue notices, get responses from taxpayers, respond to their queries, and communicate final orders like assessments, appeals, exemption, and penalties.

The new income tax website will come with a bunch of new features and benefits. It may be noted that all impotent functions of this portal on the desktop will be available on a mobile application as well. The mobile application will be enabled subsequently for access on a mobile network.

The new portal has been integrated with the immediate process of Income Tax Returns (ITRs) that will help issue quick refunds to taxpayers. All interactions, uploads and pending actions will also be displayed on a single dashboard for follow-up action by the taxpayer.

It will also come with a new ITR preparation software available online and offline with interactive questions to help taxpayers file ITR. The web portal will also accompany tutorials, videos and chatbot feature to help address taxpayers’ queries.

To ensure easy payments, the new ITR website will also accompany a new online payment system with multiple payment options like net banking, UPI, credit card, RTGS and NEFT from any taxpayer account.
