The triple lockdown came into effect in four Kerala districts reporting the highest number of Covid-19 cases in the state, from Sunday midnight and will remain in force till May 23 even as Kerala extended lockdown in the state owing to the rising Covid cases.
The boundaries of the Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Malappuram districts will be sealed as part of the administration’s bid to arrest the massive spread of coronavirus, while the current lockdown will continue in the other 10 districts of the state.
Shops dealing with food, groceries and other essential food items will be open on alternate days starting from Monday onwards. All shops are ordered to shut, including for home delivery purposes, by 2 pm.
Distribution of milk and newspaper shall be completed before 8 am.
Fair Price Shops (Ration / PDS /Maveli /Supplyco Shops) and Milk Booths are permitted to function on all days till 5:00 pm.
Restaurants and hotels will be allowed to function from 7 am to 07:30 pm with home delivery services only. No dine-in and take-away/parcels shall be allowed during the lockdown in Kerala.
The general public will be prevented from travelling long distances for the purchase of essential commodities. Banks, insurance and financial services will function for the public with minimal staff on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10 am to 1 pm.
Cooperative banks will remain open only on Monday and Thursday from 10 am to 1 pm. E-commerce entities and delivery services for essential items shall be permitted to operate from 7 am to 2 pm on all days.
The Kerala government has deployed 10,000 police personnel in these districts to ensure strict enforcement of the triple lockdown.
Entry and exit from the district shall be strictly regulated by the police. Strict perimeter control shall be ensured in containment zones and movement will be regulated by the police. Interstate road transport is allowed for goods and emergency services only.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said drones and Geo-Fencing technology will be used and strict restrictions would be clamped in these districts.
For interstate road transport of individuals on emergency purposes, registration on the Covid-19 Jagratha portal is mandatory.
Media persons travelling to and from the district shall obtain a special pass from the police. Household help, home nurses and caregivers shall obtain online passes for their travel.
Technicians (on-call electrical and plumbing services) shall be permitted after obtaining an online travel pass. Online travel passes from the police can be obtained at pass.bsafe.kerala.gov.in
On Sunday, Kerala reported 29,704 fresh Covid19 cases, taking the total active caseload to 4,40,652. 89 deaths in the previous 24 hrs were confirmed to be due to Covid-19.
