BJP’s Suvendu Adhikari defeated Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in a closely fought battle in Nandigram. Adhikari emerged victorious in the 16th and final round of counting. However, Mamata’s party TMC is set to retain power in the state.

In 2011, Phiroja Bibi of TMC won in this seat defeating Paramananda Bharati of CPI by a margin of 43,640 votes which was 25.42% of the total votes polled in the constituency. TMC had a vote share of 60.17% in 2011 in the seat.
