They say you are never too old to fall in love and get married. A 73-year-old woman living in the Mysuru district decided that she will not live her life all alone.
WOMAN GETS RESPONSE FROM 69-YEAR-OLD MAN
The woman, who retired as a teacher, then put out a matrimonial advertisement seeking a Brahmin husband. And she did get a response from a 69-year-old man, who retired as an engineer. The woman did not want to live alone. She was looking for a companion who would stay with her for the rest of her life.
The matrimonial advertisement stated that the woman is looking for an alliance with a man who is healthy and older than her. It also said that the man should be a Brahmin and from her community.
The woman explained that her first marriage had ended in divorce, which was painful. Therefore, it prevented her from re-marrying all these years. Now, after losing her parents, she has been leading a lonely life for a while. She also added that she now fears walking home from the bus stop or leading a life alone. Hence, she started looking for an alliance.
Brinda Adige, a Bengaluru-based feminist activist, tells India Today TV that what is happening is great. She said that age has nothing to do with a person wanting to have companionship, which we all look forward to in our lives. “For long we have been conditioned to stereotypical patriarchal thinking and their perception that people should get married young,” she said. She also added that people should only wish the couple well or stay silent.
