Gopeshwar

If you visit Gopeshwar, expect to behold views of the beautiful mountain ranges, terrace farms and lakes. It is believed that the town has got its name from Lord Krishna. The main attraction of this town is a temple of Lord Shiva which is visited by several people each year. There is a trident of Lord Shiva made of 8 metals and as high as 5 mt in the temple premises which cannot be removed from its place by anyone. Only if a person with a devout heart touches this trident, he or she may feel slight shiver run down the spine. Believed to have been installed in the temple in the 12th century, this trident has never rusted. Another important site to visit in Gopeshwar is Vaitarni Kund where pilgrims can take a holy dip. Besides the ancient temple of Lord Shiva, Vaitarni Kund, a group of temples without idols and Oak View are other places of interest.
